Pearls have been prized for their beauty and rarity since the dawn of time.  Today, most pearls are the product of culturing—inducing the natural biological process by implanting a nucleus into the oyster.  At MONTANARI, we feature only the most select grades of cultured pearls in our own original jewelry designs.  All the pearls we offer are the natural product of aquaculture, and guaranteed natural color. There are basically three types of pearls, the traditional white Japanese Akoya pearls, fresh water pearls, and South Sea pearls.  Japanese Cultured Pearls are almost always round, and range in size from less than 2 millimeters to a maximum of 10 millimeters in diameter.  Most freshwater pearls are cultivated in China, and are available in a wide range of colors, sizes, and shapes. South Sea pearls are usually round, and range in size from 8 millimeters up to more than 20 millimeters in diameter.  White South Sea pearls are farmed primarily in the coastal waters of northern Australia.  Rare Golden South Sea pearls originate in Indonesia, and the popular “black” pearls come from Tahiti in French Polynesia and from other atolls in the South Pacific, such as the Cook Islands.  Shown on this page are just a few examples of our Pearls and Pearl Jewelry.  For a more comprehensive view of the range of our offerings, click on Archives.
